LAN'ded flashback! So back in June 2009 when I was re-writing LAN'ded, Kyle and I were brainstorming images and ideas that would really capture the relationship between Christian and Izzy. For some reason the idea of them both being knights and very loyal to their friendship stood out to me and this free-writing is what came of it.
This song occurs after Izzy realizes Christian has grown up and doesn't remember what their childhood was like, and he comes to terms with what has happened to their relationship.

"The Way We Were"
Why can't you be the way you were?
We battled a dragon and thought nothing of it.
There were maidens and vixens yet nothing to covet.
Fun and adventures, tons of treasures, nothing to blame
Running free with no remorse or no shame.
What's happened? What the hell happened?
Why can't you be the way you were?
In my mind, in yours I mean.
A duo. A team. Double trouble.
A legitimate daily double.
We walked on the moon and repaired the Hubble.
But those times are past, and now I'm here.
I'm in the present and now I appear
Walking the apartment, a single pioneer.
There's no discoveries or sensations
Denying your impulses with frustrations.
Why can't we be the way we were?
You've gotta pull it together, man
You don't need to grow up, it's not Peter Pan.
Don't shove away what makes you happy
cause being mature sounds kinda crappy.
We were knights once, with no ambivalence.
You were Arthur and I was Merlin
But the Round Table looks like it's missing a leg.
I'm willing to wait but not willing to beg.
Grab your sword Arthur cause Merlin is calling
Lancelot's dead and Guinevere is falling.
Please just wake up so we can be the way we were.

breaking news
This is the word vomit that divulges itself when I listen to Parade and decide to do a theme of news and weather. Some neat parts, but sort of loses momentum at the end. I like some of the images though, just not all. I may come back to this one later.
----------
i heard the news and i threw it across the room
i thought it out and i tossed it out the window
i see it happening and it all to much to bear
so i pitched it down the stairs
cause i know i can see you anywhere
i look around my room, i tend to stare
in my life i see you everywhere
the weatherman forecasts heavy rain
cover stories propose a pound of hurt
CNN says to prepare for the worst
and so i shut the TV off.
cause i know i can see you anywhere
i look around my life, which i never share
in my world i see you everywhere
and there are times i doubt the sidewalk is solid right in front of me
and there are times i feel the car start to drive itself
and there are times when i don't feel anything except how i know i feel when i'm with you
gossips taunting me about the end of days
i won't flinch i'll stand and take the strikes
and prove the fakers wrong for all the years of strife.
cause i can see you anywhere
i see you floating in the air
in an aerospace affair
you're competing with the clouds
in a game of truth or dare
i'm falling to the ground as i watch you slip away
saying a prayer to myself that i know i won't betray
and as i pass on through the rain
and the lightning in the sky
i pull my chute and am relieved to
see you with me standing by
i don't think you'll pitch me down the stairs.
i don't think you'll toss me out the window
cause maybe you see me everywhere

Green Hill Zone
I was listening to some old piano music and wondering why some themes had never had lyrics written to them. So...I took one and put words to it. For the sake of good detective work, I won't tell you which one. The title should give it away instantly though.
For the record, I'm unhappy with the end result, but hey, the process is what this exercise is all about. Not the product.
---------
these shoes make my feet feel faster
but i'm sinking like jacob astor
i won't go down with the ship, no
though i don't know where to go
everything feels so robotic
even creatures in the life aquatic
i'll jump them, setting them free
spinning is the best way to see
one day i'll be glowing so bright
and you'll see me in a new light
what a rush!
i'm miles ahead of you now
i'll wait up, we'll make it through somehow
through green hill, marble, to star light
blasting off an all terrain flight
together we'll soldier on to
a future we've both clung onto
these white gloves are never dirty
finished this stage just under three-thirty

1.21 Jijowatts
I've no idea how I came up with this one. I was unable to sleep on my way to Chicago and for some reason I just got into a very Back To The Future mood. So here's a very white-boy rap love song.
----
[a]
Sometimes I wonder what happened to "us?"
Now before you furrow your brow,
nose scrunched in disgust,
it's a problem y'see?
It's a matter of fact.
But without Doc Brown I don't know how to act.
A capacity for flux, or a delorean would do,
to replace the time I lost before meeting you.
It was a day in January, 4:13 to be precise.
And after a month of gifting for the naughty and the nice
I found myself wanting a time control device.
[b]
Two hands on the watch
two hands on your hips
I feel like Marty McFly
kissing your lips
Time stands still
The moment drifts into the past
We're not promised the future
So make this feeling last.
[a]
I want a simple time machine, any variety
to catch a re-run of our serendipity
my heart was cravin' candy, and you tasted like sweet-tarts
the way you lit me up gave me pinball machine parts.
I was slippin' on my words like an icy hill in rain
But you understood my sentiment negating all my pain
It doesn't take a scientist to see my love is real
you grabbed my hand like lightning,
shocking all I feel
[b]
Two hands on the watch
two hands on your hips
I feel like Marty McFly
kissing your lips
Time stands still
The moment drifts into the past
We're not promised the future
So make this feeling last.
[c]
Whoa this is heavy, but I like what I see
you got me working hard, busy as a bee.
(two hands on the watch)
Whoa this is heavy but I like what I see

I feel like Marty McFly
kissing your lips.

I'm There - 1/23/10
Ever have something you want to say, but can't make out the words? Well, that's what this is all about. I think that's about all I need to say. It wasn't written for any project or any show, it's just something selfish, for me right now. It's written as a patter song, lighthearted but a little awkward, which pretty much sums me up.
[f]
As long as I've known you, I've been there
[a]
You can't find it on a map but I've seen it more than twice
Maybe thrice? What I'm trying to say is, it's been nice.
Some advice? What to say, though you're never in my way
You're the forefront of my thoughts and in my head.
Though I can't quite decide, do I say it or override
to retreat back to vague references instead?
[b]
I'm there, I'm there, don't you see me standing bare
Why can't you read my thoughts? I'm right there.
I'm there, I'm there, though I'm not standing right beside you.
It's a metaphor, or is it analogy? I'm there.
[a]
Don't you get it? Can't you see? Y'know, I've really got to pee.
This doesn't help the situation, thought you should know.
Please don't leave, don't pass by, I can do this if I try.
There's always been one place I'm always scared to go
[b]
but I'm there, I'm there. Just something I ought to share.
If it were currency, you'd be my millionaire.
I'm there! I'm there! I thought you'd understand by now,
You make me feel like dancing tap like Fred Astaire.
[c]
Don't you remember the hour we spent lying awake together
I told you then.
I haven't been to this place with anyone since I can't remember when.
If the journey brought me here then you're my destination.
I just needed you to help me out with the navigation.
[b]
So I'm there, I'm there. I can even feel it in my hair!
And a little bit even in my underwear...
I'm not scared. Not scared! I love you, that's a promise
[f]
Even though I'm always moving I've always been there.

THING A DAY - A Threesome
WOW Thing a Day, it has been quite a while hasn't it? I have to admit I had missed a day or two (or three) in the last month but I had a strong comeback. I decided to post three of my TADs today because well...maybe it'll give me the kick in the ass I need to power through on those days I leave a TAD half finished. Regardless...I chose these three TADs because I noticed that I had begun writing alot about my friends. Every one of the TADs below is about a friend I have...actually one is about someone I've only spoken to once but hey, it was enough to inspire the text. Though they don't all hit the way they played in my head, I think they're not TOO horrible.
----------
BOLLYWOOD (lifted rhyme scheme from BNL, oops)
I didn't know what to expect
but we talked about bertolt brecht
i thought i was the only one
should've noticed this all before
building up a hindi rapport
dancing the blues has never been so fun
but she'll run off to bollywood, like I know she should
she'll chase her dream out there
i don't know much about sanskrit
but she'll be a big hit
dancing in the end credits somewhere
She poured my drink into a mason jar
said she didn't know what real cups are
it was charming to say the least
she almost slipped on some black ice so
i pulled her left, told her where to go
thought it'd be better if she were not deceased
but she'll run off to bollywood, like she knows she should
and cause she's pretty with long dark hair
I know she'll be a star there
she'll make it real far there
even though her height isn't fair
a goal is just a dream with a deadline
here's hoping I read a headline
in the A1 India Newspaper
I don't know much about the culture or the state of mind
but I'm cheering across the borderline
watching the star dust on my tv
cause she'll make it to bollywood, like she knows she should
with a ticket for first class airfare
though others may scoff
i'll just flip them off
it's not worth dreaming if you don't dare
----------
GO BUCKEYES (I challenged myself to write a Nickelback parody type song..this is what surfaced)
they'll never tell her she's beautiful
cause that's too tough to admit
and though she makes the grades with each passing day
they'll never award the honors
everyone says they're scared of her
but really they're jealous
the vultures injure her and eat their wounded
seems like everyone just wants to be be her everyday.
she's crawling in the mud looking for the answer
born with gifts she can't ignore, yet everybody hands her
a ticking bomb, a gilded knife, but I'll give her my hand
cause she's the most perfect girl I know.
i hear it through the grapevine
she's on the tip on everybody's lips
she'll never know cause they're don't dare ever tell
they watch her every move
mocking her clothes while making notes
they'll buy them next week
she'll cry in her room looking through her contacts
but everyone just wants to be her everyday
she's crawling in the mud looking for the answer
born with gifts she can't ignore, yet everybody hands her
a ticking bomb, a gilded knife, but I'll give her my hand
cause she's the most perfect girl I know.
They can't tell her about the things she's got
they can't tell her all the things they're not
Her friends back home can't believe the world out there can be so mean
Though she smiles through her tears
reassures them she's got no fears
She'll work harder than she ever has before.
she's crawling in the mud looking for the answer
born with gifts she can't ignore, yet everybody hands her
a ticking bomb, a gilded knife, but I'll give her my hand
cause she's the most perfect girl I know.

COOLEST GUY IN TOWN (Maniacal Raffi)
Holy shit, he's the coolest guy in town.
Got his key-ring in tow, he's ready to go,
cause he's the bee's knees, when it comes to the 9 to 5.
He's chatting up the ladies talking about his punk rock band
Gonna get a new piercing, says its going just like he planned
holy shit...he's the coolest guy in town.
Drinking Red Bull, he says it gives him the edge
When we go putt-putting, he brings his pitching wedge
cause he's the cat's meow, at least they told him in the 80's
getting fast food every night for his buddies at the car park
When you buying dollar menu you know you're hitting the mark
holy shit, he's the coolest guy in town
And he won't you invite you places, it's good because you'll never want to go
Just let him live his biggest dream, he'll never ever know
But you do, he's the coolest guy in town.
Yeah yeah yeah, he's got his 87' metro chromed out, all 4 wheels
He doesn't buy the latest fads, he goes for dumpster deals
Righteous! He's the coolest guy you know.
He's making every beer run for all the singles under twenty
He says he's got a million friends but he hasn't got that many
You know him too, he's the coolest guy in town.

Thing A Day - Your Algorithm
Alright, well, I STARTED writing this awhile ago. It eventually got to the point where I hit a wall with it and just decided to let sleeping dogs lie. I began writing this for a short song cycle I had in mind titled "Legends of the Underdog" and this fit in nicely with a character I had in mind. Though it really isn't finished I don't totally hate what I wrote, in fact I think it's not half bad.
It just isn't finished. I'm posting it anyway because maybe if I throw it out there for a while then I can come back to it later. Who knows?
Your Algorithm - by Aaron J. Amendola
there's no formula stated
or a pattern devised,
that can add my thoughts together when I look into her eyes
she's my math lab partner.
the product of a perfect pairing,
and my nose always starts to bleed
when its her book that we're sharing.
i tend to sweat.
alot.
even when the weather isn't
all
that
hot
but
i'll write an algorithm for her
and an algorithm for me,
maybe an algorithm for us?
to sum it up, we'll be together.
a simple method for love
a chance i've only dream of.
a word problem i cannot solve,
its our algorithm for love.
i won't accept subtraction
from the equation at hand.
get me to the blackboard
so i can make my stand.
when she's thinking versace,
i'm studying fibonacci
but i'd treat her like a queen
or a well kept tamagotchi.
she's the apple of my eye
the perfect answer for x equals pie
i'll write an algorithm for her
and an algorithm for me,
maybe an algorithm for us
to sum it up we'll be together
a simple method for love
a chance i've only dreamed of
don't slam the textbook shut on us
write down our algorithm for love
my factoral'd excitement
can't be divided.
these newfound angles
would be subsided.
i'm clickin' in my pen
for the day when
i gather the words
and form a phrase
to group us together
for the rest of our days.
i'll write an algorithm for you
no, an algorithm for us
i'll sum it up: we'll be together.
a simple method for love
a chance i've only dreamed of
a word problem i'll solve someday
an algorithm for love.
It just isn't finished. I'm posting it anyway because maybe if I throw it out there for a while then I can come back to it later. Who knows?
