The Way We Were

LAN'ded flashback! So back in June 2009 when I was re-writing LAN'ded, Kyle and I were brainstorming images and ideas that would really capture the relationship between Christian and Izzy. For some reason the idea of them both being knights and very loyal to their friendship stood out to me and this free-writing is what came of it.

This song occurs after Izzy realizes Christian has grown up and doesn't remember what their childhood was like, and he comes to terms with what has happened to their relationship.

We battled a dragon and thought nothing of it.
There were maidens and vixens yet nothing to covet.
Fun and adventures, tons of treasures, nothing to blame
Running free with no remorse or no shame.

What's happened? What the hell happened?

In my mind, in yours I mean.
A duo. A team. Double trouble.
A legitimate daily double.
We walked on the moon and repaired the Hubble.

But those times are past, and now I'm here.
I'm in the present and now I appear
Walking the apartment, a single pioneer.
There's no discoveries or sensations
Denying your impulses with frustrations.
Why can't we be the way we were?

You don't need to grow up, it's not Peter Pan.
Don't shove away what makes you happy
cause being mature sounds kinda crappy.
We were knights once, with no ambivalence.
You were Arthur and I was Merlin
But the Round Table looks like it's missing a leg.
I'm willing to wait but not willing to beg.

Grab your sword Arthur cause Merlin is calling
Lancelot's dead and Guinevere is falling.
Please just wake up so we can be the way we were.
